You Don’t Have to Get it Right; Just Get it Going

Just in case you didn’t know, I go to the gym every day.

Not just to look my best, feel good or have more energy, but to also keep a commitment that I made to myself a long time ago when I was healing from a fractured vertabrae in my lower back.

Sure, my original committment was to heal my back, but then I added on looking better, feeling better and having more energy.

Today, it goes a lot deeper than that.

Here’s what I mean -  I think a story is in order.

So today I’m riding the bike on Level 8, warming up for 20 minutes before I go blast my shoulders with an intense workout.

While reading some blog posts by a few friends of mine, I noticed that I wasn’t peddling my bike with the same intensity as when I started.

And that’s when all the dots came together - you know, that ton o’ bricks that hits you right between the eyes!

I was there at the gym to keep my committment and to stay in integrity with myself – you know – doing what I say I’m going to do by when I say I’m going to do it. (That’s the other reason I go to the gym 5 days per week – simply because I said I would – but that’s a whole other story for another post !)

Anyway, so I realize that by reading on my iPhone, Im not really peddling the bike – certainly not enough to make a difference.

I was so wrapped up in the information, that I wasn’t doing the work thats required of me to really meet my goals – you know, the real reason I was there in the first place.

Do you do this too?

Do you get so wrapped up in reading and listening to information, that you just plain forget to do the work?

Well my friend, it’s not done consciously, but subconsciously and although it’s not your fault that a million distractions are present in your everyday life, it’s your responsibility to make sure that this does not happen to you.

Look, every day there is going to be a distraction that looks good or sounds good – heck, it’s probably even more fun than doing what it takes to succeed.

Really, anything can distract you if you let it.

So the key here is to discipline yourself  on a conscious level – not to give your attention away to anything until you complete your work.

Sure, there is a time to read and listen and educate yourself, but the time to act, is now.

Don’t let procrastination get in your way.

You don’t have to be perfect to produce.

Remember, you don’t have to get it right; just get it going.

  • This is just what I needed to hear, I chuckled to myself when I read it as I was doing exactly what I shouldn’t be doing and what I should be doing is building my own website but I keep wanting to dig deeper to see how everyone else does it so I can get it perfect. I keep hitting a brick wall when it comes to writing. I’ve never been good at writing and tend to get writers block 99% of the time.
    Thanks for being so inspiring.

  • Too true ! I’ve just written you a personal email on the subject ! Focus focus focus is going to be my mantra and try to ignore all the other rubbish that comes into my Inbox and sends me off on another voyage of discovery !

    Thanks for sharing !!

  • Right on Aaron, get your steam engine going!
